Single Dads

Whether you're a traditional two parent family or a single parent family - raising kids is never going to be a day at the beach all the time. What happens, though, when you suddenly find yourself a single father? Do single dads have a more difficult time raising their children than single mothers? Or do they have it slightly easier then single moms? (I know, that fabled Easy Button does not exist, no matter WHAT kind of parent you are!)

What it really boils down to is just varying degrees of difficulty. So where do single dads stand in all of this? If two parent families have a hard time then how are the single fathers supposed to cope?

The great news is that single dads are just as capable of bringing up children on their own as are single mothers, and with no less degree of success. What many single fathers may face is simply a lack of general household skills. Men can be just as nurturing and loving parents as can women. All they need is maybe a little "Martha Stewart" in their repertoire!

So - here are some great resources for single fathers to use.

First of all, go to http://www.singlefather.org/ - this is a great website for all kinds of help for single dads anywhere. This is a great resource for single dads because it is a forum developed especially for you. It doesn't matter whether you have custody of your kids or not - this is a group of fathers reaching out to other fathers giving support, advice and most of all, a great helping hand when you need it.

This site - Mr. Dad at http://www.mrdad.com/father/single.html has great parenting advice for single fathers. Here you can find all kinds of advice for raising kids, from newborns through teenagers, straight shooting advice that men will appreciate.

This site is a great resource for - cooking!!! C'mon Dad - we can't do McDonald's every night, so its time to brush up on some simple recipes that will sure to have your kids amazed (and that ex wondering….) This Single Father's Kitchen even has a glossary for those of you who may not know what the term "oven" even means.

The bottom line is, single fathers have resources out there specifically geared toward them and their unique situation. Use the resources! You can do everything that a mother could do, with the exception of breast feeding of course, but there is always formula! Single dads can still heal and kiss away skinned knees and elbows just as well as a Mommy can.

So if you can handle a stress filled job and a belligerent boss with no qualms then take this particular bull by the horns and show the world that single dads can raise fantastic kids! Show them that single dads rock and are just as capable as the much more common single mother.
